Royal Challengers Bangalore star Dinesh Karthik believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal does not need to fast-track in ODIs after his stellar season for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023.
Yashwasi Jaiswal was one of the most impressive youngsters in the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he took the season by storm with his stellar performances with the bat. Although his team Rajasthan Royals (RR) failed to qualify for the playoffs, Jaiswal enjoyed a memorable season as he finished the season with 625 runs in just 14 matches, the most by an uncapped batsman in an IPL season. Made a record of
Jaiswal started the season on a steady note, but his game continued to evolve as the season progressed, with left-handers bowling for fun. He hit five half-centuries and a century to provide Royals a consistent top-order start in the league stage and sparked debate for a call up to Team India ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year.
Several former cricketers, including the likes of Ravi Shastri, have suggested that Jaiswal should be included in the Indian team faster given his excellent form. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star Dinesh Karthik is currently against the idea of promoting Jaiswal in ODIs. Instead, Karthik wants the Indian team management to try the youngster in T20Is first as there is little time left for India to tweak their plans ahead of the ODI World Cup at home.
“I don’t think Yashasvi needs to be fast-tracked into the ODI setup,” Karthik said in the latest episode of ICC Review.
“He is a young boy. He needs to fast-track in the T20I setup. I think he should be one of the frontrunners for next year’s T20 World Cup as there are a limited amount of ODIs left to be played before this World Cup.

Karthik believes that India have an established opening pair in skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill who they do not need to worry about ahead of the ODI World Cup. He also pointed out how Ishan Kishan is there, waiting in the wings for the Indian team after proving his mettle in the opportunities he got in ODIs.
“India have not lacked an opener, they have done really well with Rohit and Shubman. So I think after the World Cup, I think in ODIs and T20s, he (Jaiswal) is going to be a consistent player without any doubt. You don’t need to fast-track him in this World Cup. I think Ishan is Kishan who has also done well, who is waiting for,” said Karthik.

Describing Jaiswal as a special talent, Karthik said that he needs to prepare in international cricket through T20Is first, which will make the transition easier for him. He believes that if Jaiswal is given fair chances in the shortest format, the left-handed batsman will be ready to play in both the white-ball formats by the end of the ODI World Cup 2023.
“I just feel it is only fair that Yashasvi Jaiswal is given an extended run when given the opportunity because again, he is a very special player. He has shown us this IPL. But when it comes to international cricket, it is a completely different cup. Just get him back there in the T20 setup, he needs to be there now. He will go And by the time this World Cup gets over, he will be ready to play ODIs and T20s from there.
